Submissions to cotton export enquiry close

April 8, 2019

Export Control Amendment (Banning Cotton Exports to Ensure Water Security) Bill 2019

In February 2019, South Australian Senator Rex Patrick introduced a Bill into federal parliament to ban the export of cotton. This Bill is now the subject of a parliamentary inquiry by the Senate Rural and Regional Affairs and Transport Legislation Committee.

Submissions to this Inquiry close on April 8th, 2019.

Individuals, groups, CGAs, local governments, and regional business are encouraged by Cotton Australia to send in a submission to the inquiry looking at the proposal to ban the export of cotton from Australia.

Cotton Australia is encouraging as many people and groups as possible to send in a submission, so the industry can share with politicians why our industry is important and the impact it has on individuals and communities.

Submissions can be as detailed or minimal as the writer sees fit, and should focus on how a ban on cotton would impact the person making the submission. Submissions do not need to follow any set format, and a simple letter is acceptable. Cotton Australia encourages writers to focus on what a ban would do to their families, their businesses, their employees and their communities.

Details on the Senate Inquiry can be found here. On the right side of the web page are buttons to pages with more detail on the Bill, access to submissions already lodged, and a tab for uploading submissions.

Submissions should be addressed to:

Committee Secretary Senate Standing Committees on Rural and Regional Affairs and Transport
PO Box 6100 Parliament House
Canberra ACT 2600
rrat.sen@aph.gov.au

Submissions can either be emailed to the above address, or submitted using the upload button on the website.
