Geoff McIntyre began his career with the Queensland Department of Agriculture and Fisheries in 1968 undertaking cotton breeding variety evaluation as a district experimentalist. In 1982 Geoff moved across into an extension role where he worked with growers throughout Queensland to improve cotton production through improved adoption of improved irrigation and crop agronomy practice. For a number of years Geoff led the cotton extension team in Queensland as well as being a very active proponent for the update of Best Management Practice accreditation.

Upon retiring in 2013, Geoff has maintained an active profile within the Australian cotton industry as a BMP accreditor and judge for the Australian Cotton industry awards program.
